Using the Button Remote with
your favorite streaming app on Apple TV

The Function101 Button Remote follows Apple TV’s standard controls, but each streaming app—like Netflix, Prime Video, Hulu, and Disney+—may respond a little differently to Play, Pause, Fast Forward, and Rewind.

Streaming App Function Guide
This guide explains how the Function101 Button Remote for Apple TV works with popular streaming apps such as Amazon Prime, Apple TV+, Disney+, Hulu, Max, Netflix, Paramount+, Peacock, Sling, and YouTube TV.

How the main buttons work
Fast Forward / Rewind button
- Quick press: Starts fast forward or rewind.
- Press again: Increases speed (often up to 2x and then 3x).
- Press and hold: Scans quickly through the show or movie.
Skip Forward / Skip Back (10–15 second jumps)
- Quick press: Jumps ahead or back about 10 seconds in most apps.
- Some apps (for example, certain live TV apps) may jump about 15 seconds instead.
- Press and hold: In many apps this will move rapidly forward or back in repeated short steps.
Right / Left Arrow buttons
- Move through the timeline or menu items on screen.
- In some apps, left and right arrows adjust where you are in the show before you press OK or Play.
OK / Play / Pause button
- OK during playback: Often acts as Play / Pause.
- OK on a title or episode: Selects and starts the show or movie.
Using Closed Captions and Info
- Closed Captions (CC): Look for a “CC”, “Subtitles,” or a speech bubble icon.
- Info or Details: Look for an “i” icon, “Info,” “Details,” or an episode list.
- Use the Up Arrow or Down Arrow to bring up on-screen options, then move with the arrows and press OK.
Amazon Prime Video
- Fast Forward / Rewind button: Quick press starts fast forward or rewind. Additional presses increase the speed.
- Skip Forward / Back: Quick press skips about 10 seconds forward or back.
- Play / Pause (OK): Press OK to play or pause.
- Closed Captions (Subtitles): Press the Up Arrow to bring up the X-Ray bar, then use the Right Arrow to move to the Subtitles option and press OK.
- Program Info / Episodes: Press the Up Arrow to open X-Ray, use the Right Arrow to move to the Info area, and press Down Arrow to see more episodes.
Apple TV+
- Fast Forward / Rewind button: Quick press starts fast forward or rewind; additional quick presses increase speed.
- Skip Forward / Back: Quick press skips about 10 seconds forward or back.
- Play / Pause (OK): OK acts as Play / Pause while watching.
- Closed Captions: Press the Up Arrow, then use the Right Arrow to move to the Settings box. Press OK and choose Subtitles.
- Program Info: Press the Up Arrow, move to the Settings box again, press OK, and select Info to see more details.
Disney+
- Fast Forward / Rewind button: Press and release to start, hold to go faster.
- Skip Forward / Back: Quick press moves about 10 seconds at a time; holding can speed this up.
- Play / Pause (OK): OK will play and pause the current show or movie.
- Closed Captions: Press the Up Arrow, then use the arrows to highlight the Subtitles / CC icon (often a speech bubble) and press OK.
- Program Info: Press the Down Arrow to bring up more details or episode lists, then use the arrows and OK to choose.
Hulu
- Fast Forward / Rewind button: Quick press for standard speed; hold to move through the show more quickly.
- Skip Forward / Back: Quick press jumps about 10 seconds each time.
- Play / Pause (OK): OK acts as Play / Pause for most content.
- Closed Captions: Press the Up Arrow or Down Arrow to bring up on-screen controls, then move to the CC box and press OK.
- Program Info: Use the Up or Down Arrow to move to the Info or Details box and press OK.
Max
- Fast Forward / Rewind button: Quick presses increase fast-forward or rewind speed.
- Skip Forward / Back: Quick press skips about 10 seconds at a time.
- Play / Pause (OK): Use OK to stop and restart playback.
- Closed Captions: Press the Up Arrow to highlight the Subtitles or CC option, then press OK.
- Program Info: Press the Up Arrow to move to the Info option, then press OK to see season and episode details.
Netflix
- Fast Forward / Rewind button: Quick press starts fast forward or rewind; second and third presses increase the speed.
- Skip Forward / Back: Quick press skips about 10 seconds while watching.
- Play / Pause (OK): OK acts as Stop / Play / Pause during playback.
- Closed Captions: Press the Up Arrow and select the Quote Bubble (speech bubble) icon, then choose your subtitle or caption option.
- Program Info: Press the Down Arrow to highlight the Info area or episode row, then press OK to see more details.
Paramount+
- Fast Forward / Rewind button: Quick press starts fast forward or rewind; press again to increase speed.
- Skip Forward / Back: Quick press skips about 10 seconds ahead or back.
- Play / Pause (OK): OK will stop and restart playback.
- Closed Captions: Press the Up Arrow, then use the Right Arrow to move to the Subtitles option and press OK.
- Program Info: Press the Up Arrow, move to the Info option with the arrows, and press OK.
Peacock
- Fast Forward / Rewind button: Quick presses increase speed for fast forward or rewind.
- Skip Forward / Back: Quick press usually skips about 15 seconds forward or back.
- Play / Pause (OK): OK will stop and start playback.
- Closed Captions: Press the Down Arrow and navigate to the CC box, then press OK.
- Program Info: Press the Down Arrow to highlight the Details box and press OK to see more information.
Sling
- Fast Forward / Rewind button: Press and release to start, and press again to adjust speed.
- Skip Forward / Back: Quick press skips about 10 seconds; holding the button can speed this up in some views.
- Play / Pause (OK): OK works as Play / Pause while watching on-demand content.
- Closed Captions: Press the Up Arrow or Down Arrow and move to the CC control, then press OK.
- Program Info: Use the arrow buttons to move to the Info area or info icon, then press OK.
YouTube TV
- Fast Forward / Rewind button: Quick press starts fast forward or rewind; press again to speed up the scan.
- Skip Forward / Back: Quick press skips about 10 seconds forward or back.
- Play / Pause (OK): OK is your main Play / Pause button.
- Closed Captions: Press the Up Arrow or Down Arrow to bring up controls and navigate to the CC box, then press OK.
- Program Info: Press the Up Arrow or Down Arrow to highlight the Info box and press OK for channel and show details.
Helpful tips for older viewers
- Pause often: Do not be afraid to press Play / Pause when you need a moment.
- Use small skips: The Skip buttons move in short jumps (10–15 seconds), which is easier than fast-forwarding long distances.
- Find captions first: If you like subtitles, turn on Closed Captions before you start watching a new show.
- Remember “Up” for options: In many apps, pressing the Up Arrow reveals subtitles, settings, or extra information.
