Every button, in every app.

Streaming apps map the Apple TV remote differently, so the same button can skip 10 seconds in one app and do nothing in another. Here is exactly what each Button Remote button does inside the ten most-used apps.

Both editions share the same layout, so every mapping below applies to the Infrared Edition and the Bluetooth Edition.

Netflix

Full transport control

Fast Forward / Rewind
Quick press fast forwards or rewinds once. A second press is 2x, a third press is 3x.
Skip Forward / Skip Back
Jumps 10 seconds.
Right / Left Arrow
Quick press skips 10 seconds. Press and hold, then a single press increases to 2x; another press increases to 3x.
Play / Pause
OK, Stop and Play/Pause all work.
Closed Captions
Quick press the Up Arrow and select the quote bubble.
Program Info
Quick press the Down Arrow, select the Info button and press OK.

Apple TV+

Full transport control

Play and pause work differently

Fast Forward / Rewind
Press and release to move one step. Press and hold to increase speed.
Skip Forward / Skip Back
Jumps 10 seconds.
Right / Left Arrow
Jumps 10 seconds per press. Press and hold accelerates.
Play / Pause
Stop and Play/Pause only. The OK button plays but does not pause.
Closed Captions
Quick press the Up Arrow, use the Right Arrow to reach the settings box, press OK, then select Subtitles.
Program Info
Quick press the Up Arrow, use the Right Arrow to reach the settings box, press OK, then select Info.

If playback won't pause, use Play/Pause rather than OK.

Hulu
